Adjusting...

Adjusting to the new life is a little difficult. We've been here a little over a month and I still find myself feeling lost in my house, trying to grab a dish out of the wrong cabinet, or having to stop and think is the road I'm heading to on the left or right. But those are all things that will come with time.

The other thing that sucks is that I am still jobless. It does create a financial burden, of course, but nothing we can't handle, but the other thing it causes is my boredom. When Jim goes to work, I end up at home watching crappy daytime TV and scouring the Internet for jobs. I have applied for many, many, many jobs. I'm at the point now where I'm willing to do ALMOST anything just to have something to do. I'm tired of focusing my energy on cleaning the house over and over again. The boredom is killing me, and making me a little homesick. I think it's a combination of no career to identify with, and no friends in the area. I know that will all change with time... it just sucks waiting.

I had a phone interview of sorts with a Wells Fargo recruiter for a personal banker position. I hope that actually pans out into something. But the nice thing is that talking to the person gave me back some confidence in my abilities.

In my boredom I started visiting the Burbank library. It is very close to our new house and I can even walk there if I want. I got interested in Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series and read the first 2 books. The series is an awesome read. She is from St. Louis, and the book is set in St. Louis and the characters go to many locations like the riverfront and many streets in St. Charles. It's cool that I can place the setting in my head. The ironic thing is I move away from St. Louis and then I read a series of books set in St. Louis.

I'm very much looking forward to a trip to Disneyland Friday and Saturday. I am going with a friend from my days on the Disney College Program Friday and then Jim is going Saturday. The nice thing about being a SoCal resident is that admission to the parks is very cheap. :) Yay! It's going to so much fun!

The weather is fairly cool here right now. We haven't had the air condition on except for the first week we got here. Locals call it "June Gloom". Every day is overcast and cool, and it gets pretty chilly in the evenings, probably in the high 60s. I'm looking forward to the summer sun of July. Maybe then I will enjoy sitting on my rooftop patio.

In my list of things to do in the near future I have making a video of my house and neighborhood to post to YouTube, so expect to see that sometime in the near future.

Boredom

So things are a little boring during the day while I'm working on job applications. I decided to post some funny videos that really make me laugh.

The first is from Saturday Night Live when "Whitney Houston" stops by the Weekend Update desk. This cracks me up... Enjoy!

Greetings from SoCal

Hey everyone,

I decided I was going to start a blog to keep up with friends and family. It is difficult to email everyone, so I thought this might be an easier way to keep up with everyone all at once. Of course email me anytime, I will respond eventually! So here goes nothing.

The trip to LA was fun. I got to spend 2 and a half days in the car with my mom. We actually had a blast, and the trip was very scenic and beautiful. As this blog progresses, I will attach more photos to my posts. Here are a couple that mom and I took along of photos on the trip.

We saw such a variety of scenery, from mountains in Colorado to the amazing views of Utah. Here is a photo album of our trip here and some pictures of the place that you can check out!

Unpacking and getting the house settled was insane. It took quite a few days to get this in order. Of course, we've been here a month now, so our house is as normal as can be. This is what it looked like after the movers left. Needless to say, I was a little crazed.

Now that we're here, life is good. Living in Burbank is awesome. The town is beautiful, and our new house is walking distance to shops and restaurants, Ikea, and an awesome outdoor shopping mall.

Of course, it doesn't hurt that we are about 45 minutes from Disneyland! And also, the Disney Studios are just about 10 minutes up the street. Hopefully someday I can get a job at the corporate headquarters helping make the magic. Yes, that is right. I am still looking for work which is frustrating, but I know it will work out eventually...

I'm also going to be adding lots of news videos to my YouTube account so you can see the videos I make of our shenanigans. I'm sure there will be more up there soon, but for right now, there is a video that I made of our trip to El Matador Beach this past weekend.

Take care everyone, and I'll update often and add pictures as soon as I learn how to do this a little more. Also, thanks to Amanda for the idea to do a blog. Check hers out too!
